Have you ever come to the point of absolute exhaustion? Not just for a day but for a complete season of life? You are busy with so MANY things and you finally hit the wall…mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually. You are depleted. You are worried and stressed. You are running on empty.

Luke 10:38-42 tells the story of two sisters. Martha welcomed Jesus into her home. Mary sat at His feet.  Martha had her "to do" list and she was determined to get it done. Mary sat listening intently to her Master’s voice. The things Martha was doing were good things….they just weren’t the BEST thing.

When Martha asked the Lord for help, He answered by saying, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things;  but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”

I can easily become distracted by the DOING of things - even good things. I can be so consumed with them that I miss that which is most important….simply sitting at the feet of my Lord and listening to His voice.

Listening to the voice of God does not come easily and it does not come on the run. It comes by being still and being quiet before Him. That is a tough order in today’s world but it is a discipline we all must work on. I know my weaknesses. I know how easily I can become distracted. But the question is to what am I giving my first and my best? When we make spending time with God a priority, He promises the strength we need to carry out whatever the day holds. He promises to carry the burdens we are trying to carry on our own. He promises rest.

“Come to me all who are weary…and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
